Frequently Asked Questions

When should I reach out about support?

For birth doula care, it is best to reach out as early in pregnancy as possible so your due-date availability can be reserved. For overnight postpartum support, families often inquire during pregnancy, although availability may also be possible after baby arrives.

How does the booking process work?

We’ll begin with a complimentary consultation to discuss your needs, answer questions, and determine whether we are a good fit. If you choose to move forward, I’ll send a service agreement and invoice. Your signed agreement and 50% non-refundable retainer are required to reserve your services

Do you support hospital, birth-center, and home births?

Yes. I support families planning hospital, birth-center, and home births, provided a qualified medical professional is overseeing the birth.

What areas do you serve?

Silent Night LLC serves families throughout West Virginia and Northern Virginia, including Jefferson and Berkeley Counties, Winchester, Berryville, the Northern Shenandoah Valley, Loudoun County, Fairfax County, and surrounding communities. Please reach out if you are unsure whether your location falls within the service area.

What kind of support do you provide?

For birth clients, I provide prenatal preparation, continuous emotional and physical support during labor, comfort measures, partner guidance, and a postpartum follow-up visit.

For postpartum clients, I specialize in overnight newborn care, including feeding support, soothing, diapering, settling, bottle and pump-part care, and practical reassurance while parents rest and recover.

How do you support partners and other family members?

My role is to support the whole family, not replace anyone. During birth, I help partners feel informed, confident, and involved while also giving them opportunities to rest when needed. During postpartum care, I help ease the overnight workload so both parents can recover, reconnect, and feel more prepared for the day ahead.

Do you provide medical care?

No. Doula care is nonmedical and does not replace the care of a physician, midwife, nurse, pediatrician, lactation consultant, or other licensed provider. I provide emotional, physical, informational, and practical support within the scope of doula care.

Do you follow safe-sleep practices?

Yes. All overnight newborn care follows current American Academy of Pediatrics safe-sleep guidance. Any request outside those guidelines must be supported by written direction from the baby’s pediatrician.

Are you available for inductions or planned cesareans?

Yes. I support families through inductions and planned cesarean births, offering preparation, reassurance, comfort measures, and continuous emotional support throughout the experience. Hospital policies may vary, so we will also discuss what support is permitted at your chosen birth location.

What happens if you become unavailable?

I intentionally limit the number of clients I accept to reduce scheduling conflicts. For birth support, I maintain relationships with trusted backup doulas in the rare event that I am attending another birth or cannot safely provide care. For postpartum support, any shift I cannot provide will be addressed according to the terms of the service agreement.

What happens if additional support is needed?

Birth packages include up to 16 hours of continuous labor and birth support. Additional time is available at $50 per hour.

Postpartum families may request additional overnight shifts or packages, subject to availability.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Payment may be made by check, business bill pay, or through the Silent Night website. Online card payments include a 2.5% processing fee.

Can I use Carrot benefits?

Yes. Silent Night LLC is a Carrot-approved provider. I am happy to provide the documentation needed for eligible reimbursement.
